i like my body when it is with your
body. It is so quite new a thing.
Muscles better and nerves more.
i like your body. i like what it does,
i like its hows. i like to feel the spine
of your body and its bones, and the trembling
-firm-smooth ness and which i will
again and again and again
kiss, i like kissing this and that of you,
i like, slowly stroking the, shocking fuzz
of your electric fur, and what-is-it comes
over parting flesh.... And eyes big love-crumbs,

and possibly i like the thrill

of under me you so quite new

e.e. cummings

Sorry, I know it's enormously self-indulgent to post poetry, but thank goodness it's at least not anything I've written.

Shocking fuzz of your electric fur!

We had to study that poem for GCSE English Lit and I find that reading it now still makes me blush and feel distinctly mortified, even if I am no longer in a class full of twenty giggling, blushing fifteen year olds.

I can only imagine! Your poor teachers... What on earth the savage little lot of barbarian boys in my class at school would have made of it I really don't know.

Is that a reference to your new moustache?

I've always loved that poem. Probably one of the sexiest ever written, along with Edwin Morgan's Strawberries:

I think e.e. cummings is rather under-rated. That's the second time recently I've seen something rather good by him - must read more.

Yes, that poem was a new one on me. I picked up a Selected Poems of his at a second-hand bookshop ages ago and only got round to dipping into it properly last night. But he's jolly good.

He's great. I don't know his stuff nearly well enough. But I'm now making up for lost time.

"I carry your heart" was the first e.e.cummings poem I had encountered, and I thought it was amazing; did a reading of it with rosamicula for Sara_Lou's wedding, and couldn't keep a straight voice.

I shall cherish this poem too.

I think it's a lovely thing to post, and a gorgeous way to announce how much you adore your lover.
